In an ever changing world, Core Values are constant. They are the fundamental beliefs of an organization and the guiding principles that dictate behavior and action. These values don’t only drive the company’s internal conduct, but influence its relationship with the external world as well. They are not descriptions of the work we do or the strategies we adopt; they are the values on which our work is based. Further they help us to determine whether our company and the team members are on the right track to fulfill their business goals.
Core Values are categorized into two different parts, external and internal. External Values are the characteristics that we as employees at FBD use when communicating, interacting and conducting business with external parties. Internal Values on the other hand are the characteristics that we as employees at FBD use when conducting our everyday work with one another.
Humility is a key value for us at FBD. We strive to improve humility at both the personal and organizational level. Humility is important because it enables recognition of our weaknesses and fine tuning of our strengths. A humble person is willing to be corrected when he makes a mistake. Humility is not only a trait that we need as part of an Internal Value at an organization but also a way of living at home, work and in all other personal interactions.
As individuals, each of us has strengths and weaknesses. No individual can be fully knowledgeable of all aspects of an organization’s daily work outside his/her primary job goal. To advance, openness to learn is vital for us not only to excel in our job function but also to enhance our inter-departmental work efficiencies. At FBD, we believe that to reach full-actualization as individuals, a person has to be willing to learn from anyone despite possibly ranking superior or inferior to him within the organization. To be willing to learn, first of all, the individual has to be humble and able to put aside his/her ego that could restrict such a value.
Individuals like to perfect their work at an organization, yet no one can fully state that he/she is perfect or that his/her work is always done only the right way. A part of advancing one’s career is to realize that the Pursuit of Excellence is a process that requires a tremendous effort and is a value that most reach during his/her later career stages. Excellence at work is a value that all at FBD strive towards.
At FBD, we portray and encourage full trust in the external parties we deal with. Trust is an important aspect of how we deal with our clients, contractors and other parties. When we trust those individuals, we ensure that any opportunity can be utilized, measured and seized if suitable circumstances present themselves. Without trust, we believe that an opportunity can be viewed negatively.
At FBD we believe that if we do not accept the other party then we will not be able to get rid of our own biases about that specific entity. As long as one party does not accept the other and tries hard to find alternative options then the working relationship will ultimately yield no progress whatsoever. The first step after trust is to accept an external entity “as is” without criticism or misconceptions of the way they view a certain issue. Each external party has a strategy, a philosophy and a work conduct; we believe that bringing a fresh perspective to a table will yield opportunities that otherwise would not have surfaced.
At FBD we believe that in order to advance in our company goals, we have to engage with other parties to explore their views and perspectives. By engaging with other parties, we ensure that those views are not a manifestation of ours, but rather a unique perspective of counter parties. In order to implement our approaching value, we need to Trust the other party.
Core values are only true if they have an active influence on the whole company and its image. Besides, all members are to abide by them consistently. Achieving these value goals remain the intention of FBD.
